For spatial research, add a reference vector layer on the map and select any of its features by clicking on it or by drawing a rectangle while holding the Shift key. You can then use the selected features for spatial research by clicking on the magnifying-glass icon.

For general exploration, add any layer on your map and use the same click-mechanism : single value or temporal evolution previews will be displayed.
